TAPAC is a purpose built performing arts (opened July 2003) centre, built on land at Western Springs College. It is the result of a partnership between Auckland City Council, Western Springs College and The Performing Arts School of NZ Inc.
TAPAC provides rehearsal and performance space for a range of people and groups, from individual emerging artists to professional companies, in its two dance studios, its two drama studios and its 120-seat theatre.
The studios and the theatre may be hired by a range of people, from individual emerging artists to community groups and schools, and professional companies.

Studio 1

The main dance studio, measuring 9 metres by 13 metres. It features a full wall of mirrors that reflect the full wall of windows opposite.
The windows have external shutters, allowing adjustment to make the best use of daylight.

Studio 2

The performance studio, also 9 metres by 13 metres. It features a full wall of windows that can be completely slid out beyond the studio.
This feature allows audiences at the rear of TAPAC to watch performances in the studio or for audiences within the studio to watch performances on the field at the rear of TAPAC.

Studios 1 & 2 each have a piano.

Studio 3

Studio 3 is a screen acting studio, with a cyclorama. It measures 8 metres by 12 metres.

Studio 4

Studio 4 is a carpeted acting studio, measuring 8 metres by 12 metres.

Theatre

The auditorium can seat an audience of 120 people. Seating is flexible, as the seats are on movable rostra. This allows the auditorium to be set up with a proscenium or in traverse or in the round.
In addition, the auditorium can also be used as a rehearsal space, using the house lights and without stage sound or lighting. It is 14 metres square, with a stepped pit that can be incorporated into the seating system, used for staging, or covered flush with the floor.
The control room runs for the entire width of the auditorium, with arms that run up the sides of the auditorium to a point level with the front of the audience area.
The lighting grid covers the whole ceiling of the auditorium, giving complete flexibility.
