Part of the original Parliament Buildings designed by John Cambell and Claude Paton, and opened in 1918, the Grand Hall was refurbished, including earthquake strengthening and air conditioning, between 1991- 1995.

Adjacent to the House of Representativies, the hall was used as a members lounge, not open to the public.

Today, the hall is available for receptions, concerts and social gatherings upon invitation by an MP.
